Narrative:

During climb and departure phase of flight from ont on the pom 6 departure we encountered a near miss with a light aircraft. The incident occurred as we were leveling to cross pom VOR at or below 8000 ft. We had just left ont departure control and were getting ready to call lax center. No traffic was called by ont departure. After contacting lax center I asked if he had a radar target in our area as we had come very close to another aircraft. He said he had a target southeast of our position sebound squawking 1200. This departure may be potentially hazardous due to climbing inbound to pom VOR within 2 degree of V197 and having to cross the VOR at or below 8000 ft.
