Narrative:

I was the first officer aboard airlines flight departing from cle to dtw. I was the PF his leg. We had departed cle and I had called for the after takeoff check. The captain was performing his flow and I was completing a turn to 320 degree and climbing. During this time at approximately 2500 ft MSL I noted the #1 engine fail. I discovered that while the captain was selecting the hpc from lockout to open it slipped to the shut position. This resulted in the engine failure. We completed the emergency relight procedure at which time the engine was restarted without complication. The flight continued to dtw without incident. Contributing factors. Hpc (fuel control lever) design. This aircraft incorporates both propeller lock, fuel clt and feather functions in 1 lever. Extremely high workload in TCASII environment after departure. Relatively new captain in the aircraft.

Title: MDT ACFT IN CLB HAD L ENG SHUT DOWN.

Narrative: I WAS THE FO ABOARD AIRLINES FLT DEPARTING FROM CLE TO DTW. I WAS THE PF HIS LEG. WE HAD DEPARTED CLE AND I HAD CALLED FOR THE AFTER TKOF CHK. THE CAPT WAS PERFORMING HIS FLOW AND I WAS COMPLETING A TURN TO 320 DEG AND CLBING. DURING THIS TIME AT APPROX 2500 FT MSL I NOTED THE #1 ENG FAIL. I DISCOVERED THAT WHILE THE CAPT WAS SELECTING THE HPC FROM LOCKOUT TO OPEN IT SLIPPED TO THE SHUT POS. THIS RESULTED IN THE ENG FAILURE. WE COMPLETED THE EMER RELIGHT PROC AT WHICH TIME THE ENG WAS RESTARTED WITHOUT COMPLICATION. THE FLT CONTINUED TO DTW WITHOUT INCIDENT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. HPC (FUEL CTL LEVER) DESIGN. THIS ACFT INCORPORATES BOTH PROP LOCK, FUEL CLT AND FEATHER FUNCTIONS IN 1 LEVER. EXTREMELY HIGH WORKLOAD IN TCASII ENVIRONMENT AFTER DEP. RELATIVELY NEW CAPT IN THE ACFT.
