Narrative:

Due to a typhoon there was considerable turbulence and WX along our route of flight. In an effort to deviate around thunderstorms we flew 15 mi east of our course for approximately 50 mi. At this time we were not in radar contact, however, we were in high frequency communications with naha radio. At the time we made mandatory position report at sabgu intersection, captain notified them that we were 15 mi east of course. They requested that we return back on R224 as per flight plan. I requested the captain to mention to them the reason for our deviation. He felt it unnecessary and declined to inform naha radio the reason for our deviation. In retrospect I believe it would be important to advise whoever the controling agency is that our flight will be deviating off course due to WX prior to such action.

Title: ACR WDB TRACK HDG DEV WX AVOIDANCE ON EXTENDED OVER WATER OP.

Narrative: DUE TO A TYPHOON THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE TURB AND WX ALONG OUR RTE OF FLT. IN AN EFFORT TO DEVIATE AROUND TSTMS WE FLEW 15 MI E OF OUR COURSE FOR APPROX 50 MI. AT THIS TIME WE WERE NOT IN RADAR CONTACT, HOWEVER, WE WERE IN HIGH FREQ COMS WITH NAHA RADIO. AT THE TIME WE MADE MANDATORY POS RPT AT SABGU INTXN, CAPT NOTIFIED THEM THAT WE WERE 15 MI E OF COURSE. THEY REQUESTED THAT WE RETURN BACK ON R224 AS PER FLT PLAN. I REQUESTED THE CAPT TO MENTION TO THEM THE REASON FOR OUR DEV. HE FELT IT UNNECESSARY AND DECLINED TO INFORM NAHA RADIO THE REASON FOR OUR DEV. IN RETROSPECT I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE IMPORTANT TO ADVISE WHOEVER THE CTLING AGENCY IS THAT OUR FLT WILL BE DEVIATING OFF COURSE DUE TO WX PRIOR TO SUCH ACTION.
