Narrative:

ATC told us to climb and maintain 5500. We were light with only 5 passengers and were climbing at 110 KTS. Captain called '500 to go' as we were climbing through 5000. We were doing the after takeoff checklist and looking for traffic (and playing the tour tape) when the captain noticed our climb through 5900. ATC called at that point and we descended immediately back to 5500. ATC called traffic medium large transport at 3 O'clock, 2 mi. We did not ever see the traffic. ATC then asked us to call them at gcn, which we did.
