Narrative:

While being vectored in for the visual approach to runway 4R at newark, nj, we were told to look for IFR traffic at 2 O'clock and 4000 ft. Shortly thereafter the so sighted and called out traffic below us at 2 O'clock. Our altitude at this time was 4000 ft. The first officer, who was flying, looked to the right and confirmed he had the traffic at 2 O'clock in sight. At this time the captain spotted a second aircraft (sail plane) at our 12 O'clock and extremely close, took control of the airplane and took evasive action.

Title: ACR HAS NMAC WITH GLIDER ON DSCNT TO APCH.

Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED IN FOR THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 4R AT NEWARK, NJ, WE WERE TOLD TO LOOK FOR IFR TFC AT 2 O'CLOCK AND 4000 FT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE SO SIGHTED AND CALLED OUT TFC BELOW US AT 2 O'CLOCK. OUR ALT AT THIS TIME WAS 4000 FT. THE FO, WHO WAS FLYING, LOOKED TO THE R AND CONFIRMED HE HAD THE TFC AT 2 O'CLOCK IN SIGHT. AT THIS TIME THE CAPT SPOTTED A SECOND ACFT (SAIL PLANE) AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK AND EXTREMELY CLOSE, TOOK CTL OF THE AIRPLANE AND TOOK EVASIVE ACTION.
