Narrative:

Omaha's airport had numerous taxiways under construction which required us to roll to the end of runway 14R and taxi via taxiway east and the ramp. There was an area of construction located where taxiway D and the ramp intercept and a temporary taxi route had been established to get around the construction. The temporary taxi route was marked by short (1 1/2-2 ft tall) poles with blue reflective tape. The construction area was marked with orange construction cones, and there was an area between the temporary taxi route and the construction area. We taxied through that area between the construction and the temporary route. The temporary taxiway markers were good, but they were spaced too far apart. I was able to make almost a 90 degree turn in an aircraft and not hit any markers or go over the top of any marker with the fuselage or gear. From the direction we were entering the ramp and the darkness, it was unclr that there was a temporary taxi route, and there was nothing mentioned on the ATIS. The ATIS only mentioned that numerous taxiways were closed, check local NOTAMS, which we did. The ATIS the following morning did mention the temporary taxiway. I recommend that if there are no guidelines for the spacing of the temporary taxiway markers, maybe we should establish some guidelines for markers around construction areas at airports. It would also help to standardize the type marker so that we would see the same type marker at all airports. I'm enclosing a diagram (as good as I remember) of the area where the occurrence took place.

Title: CAPT OF MLG TAXIING IN CONSTRUCTION AREA AT OMA ARPT AT NIGHT FAILED TO FOLLOW EXACTLY THE TEMPORARY MARKERS FOR A TEMPORARY TAXIWAY.

Narrative: OMAHA'S ARPT HAD NUMEROUS TAXIWAYS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WHICH REQUIRED US TO ROLL TO THE END OF RWY 14R AND TAXI VIA TAXIWAY E AND THE RAMP. THERE WAS AN AREA OF CONSTRUCTION LOCATED WHERE TAXIWAY D AND THE RAMP INTERCEPT AND A TEMPORARY TAXI RTE HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED TO GET AROUND THE CONSTRUCTION. THE TEMPORARY TAXI RTE WAS MARKED BY SHORT (1 1/2-2 FT TALL) POLES WITH BLUE REFLECTIVE TAPE. THE CONSTRUCTION AREA WAS MARKED WITH ORANGE CONSTRUCTION CONES, AND THERE WAS AN AREA BTWN THE TEMPORARY TAXI RTE AND THE CONSTRUCTION AREA. WE TAXIED THROUGH THAT AREA BTWN THE CONSTRUCTION AND THE TEMPORARY RTE. THE TEMPORARY TAXIWAY MARKERS WERE GOOD, BUT THEY WERE SPACED TOO FAR APART. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE ALMOST A 90 DEG TURN IN AN ACFT AND NOT HIT ANY MARKERS OR GO OVER THE TOP OF ANY MARKER WITH THE FUSELAGE OR GEAR. FROM THE DIRECTION WE WERE ENTERING THE RAMP AND THE DARKNESS, IT WAS UNCLR THAT THERE WAS A TEMPORARY TAXI RTE, AND THERE WAS NOTHING MENTIONED ON THE ATIS. THE ATIS ONLY MENTIONED THAT NUMEROUS TAXIWAYS WERE CLOSED, CHK LCL NOTAMS, WHICH WE DID. THE ATIS THE FOLLOWING MORNING DID MENTION THE TEMPORARY TAXIWAY. I RECOMMEND THAT IF THERE ARE NO GUIDELINES FOR THE SPACING OF THE TEMPORARY TAXIWAY MARKERS, MAYBE WE SHOULD ESTABLISH SOME GUIDELINES FOR MARKERS AROUND CONSTRUCTION AREAS AT ARPTS. IT WOULD ALSO HELP TO STANDARDIZE THE TYPE MARKER SO THAT WE WOULD SEE THE SAME TYPE MARKER AT ALL ARPTS. I'M ENCLOSING A DIAGRAM (AS GOOD AS I REMEMBER) OF THE AREA WHERE THE OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE.
