Narrative:

Ground control gave clearance to taxi to taxiway H and hold short 17. I asked for taxi following since this was not an airport I knew. This he did and I held short until he gave me a clearance to proceed and takeoff. I did not realize this was to be an intersection takeoff so I taxied onto the runway and took off. I did not realize that I was on 13 until I was airborne and the tower asked if I knew I had left from 13 instead of 17. Before taxiing onto the runway I changed to departure control as instructed by ground. To avoid this kind of mix-up I believe it would help if the controller would say runway intersection takeoff. This would be more helpful to pilots who ask for directions. This is not meant to blame the controller who did what he was required to do.

Title: PLT OF SMA TKOF WRONG RWY.

Narrative: GND CTL GAVE CLRNC TO TAXI TO TAXIWAY H AND HOLD SHORT 17. I ASKED FOR TAXI FOLLOWING SINCE THIS WAS NOT AN ARPT I KNEW. THIS HE DID AND I HELD SHORT UNTIL HE GAVE ME A CLRNC TO PROCEED AND TKOF. I DID NOT REALIZE THIS WAS TO BE AN INTXN TKOF SO I TAXIED ONTO THE RWY AND TOOK OFF. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I WAS ON 13 UNTIL I WAS AIRBORNE AND THE TWR ASKED IF I KNEW I HAD LEFT FROM 13 INSTEAD OF 17. BEFORE TAXIING ONTO THE RWY I CHANGED TO DEP CTL AS INSTRUCTED BY GND. TO AVOID THIS KIND OF MIX-UP I BELIEVE IT WOULD HELP IF THE CTLR WOULD SAY RWY INTXN TKOF. THIS WOULD BE MORE HELPFUL TO PLTS WHO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BLAME THE CTLR WHO DID WHAT HE WAS REQUIRED TO DO.
