Narrative:

After departure from guam (agana airport) at approximately 20000 ft, a noise was heard resembling an engine compressor stall. The noise lasted only a few seconds. All engine indications were checked and found normal. Also, pressurization duct pressures were checked and found normal. The flight proceeded onto narita airport, tokyo, japan, when prior to landing with flaps at 5 degree the noise was heard again. On landing rollout, it was obvious there was a flat tire. After parking, it was found there was a piece missing from the top of the filet flap on the right wing which had apparently been damaged when the tire blew out. I was informed that following evening by flight dispatch that a passenger had seen a piece come off the wing after leaving guam. Instead of notifying anyone on the aircraft, he reported it to a local newspaper on arrival in japan.
