Narrative:

Squawked 7500 on command from erie approach control to squawk altitude when at 7500 ft. Later they apparently were not receiving my mode C. I checked with cleveland center to verify squawk and they repeated the 7500 code. After landing in hazleton, PA, the state police and fbi made a full report. Obviously as the PIC I made a mistake, but I have been told to squawk altitude when practicing around controled airports and I misunderstood the clearance.
