Narrative:

Departing nashville (bna) we received an unnecessary 'traffic' aural warning at about 4000 ft on TCAS. This aural warning was too loud and hampered our ability to hear bna departure control's (119.35) instruction to turn left. (Turn not made because of TCAS warning.) this confusion resulted with a climb through our assigned altitude of 5000 to approximately 5400. No conflict resulted from our deviation. Recommendation: TCAS aural warning is much too loud and warning parameters are too wide.
