Narrative:

Upon taxiing out of lex for takeoff on runway 22, confusion arose as to whether aircraft was cleared into position and hold on runway 22. Last transmission that was remembered by ground/tower and aircrew was a clearance to cross runway 26 threshold. Runway 26 and runway 22 thresholds are very close in proximity. Aircraft was taxied onto runway 22 and awaited takeoff clearance. Tower asked if we had talked to him yet or not. No conflict was experienced, takeoff clearance was given and flight proceeded normally. Possible cause was quick taxi out from terminal and a reverification to cross runway 26 with a high taxi and pretkof checklist workload. To prevent occurrence from happening again, I would recommend taxiing slower, and better runway markings with a bolder hold short painted line and sign. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Callback was conducted as part of a structured callback on runway incursions. Reporter had little to add, but he did emphasize that the faded markings (hold line) and missing hold sign at the approach end of runway 22 were instrumental in his failing to hold short. He felt that they may have failed to have jogged his memory to get a clearance.

Title: FLT CREW OF ACKPT MLG TAXIES ONTO RWY 22 AT LEX FOR TKOF WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: UPON TAXIING OUT OF LEX FOR TKOF ON RWY 22, CONFUSION AROSE AS TO WHETHER ACFT WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 22. LAST XMISSION THAT WAS REMEMBERED BY GND/TWR AND AIRCREW WAS A CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 26 THRESHOLD. RWY 26 AND RWY 22 THRESHOLDS ARE VERY CLOSE IN PROX. ACFT WAS TAXIED ONTO RWY 22 AND AWAITED TKOF CLRNC. TWR ASKED IF WE HAD TALKED TO HIM YET OR NOT. NO CONFLICT WAS EXPERIENCED, TKOF CLRNC WAS GIVEN AND FLT PROCEEDED NORMALLY. POSSIBLE CAUSE WAS QUICK TAXI OUT FROM TERMINAL AND A REVERIFICATION TO CROSS RWY 26 WITH A HIGH TAXI AND PRETKOF CHKLIST WORKLOAD. TO PREVENT OCCURRENCE FROM HAPPENING AGAIN, I WOULD RECOMMEND TAXIING SLOWER, AND BETTER RWY MARKINGS WITH A BOLDER HOLD SHORT PAINTED LINE AND SIGN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. CALLBACK WAS CONDUCTED AS PART OF A STRUCTURED CALLBACK ON RWY INCURSIONS. RPTR HAD LITTLE TO ADD, BUT HE DID EMPHASIZE THAT THE FADED MARKINGS (HOLD LINE) AND MISSING HOLD SIGN AT THE APCH END OF RWY 22 WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN HIS FAILING TO HOLD SHORT. HE FELT THAT THEY MAY HAVE FAILED TO HAVE JOGGED HIS MEMORY TO GET A CLRNC.
