Narrative:

We had a bird strike at rotation during takeoff at denver. The smell was terrible with the odor throughout the cabin and the cockpit. The tower had handed us to departure after takeoff. We were busy monitoring the engine and evaluating the smell which we did not at first recognize. I attempted to call departure twice. We were completing the checklist and evaluating the bird strike. After 2 or 3 mins, we realized contact with departure had not been established. At 9000' northbound we made contact with departure. We had been on the incorrect frequency and after getting the correct frequency and establishing contact we were 15 mi north of the airport. I should have contacted departure sooner. The smell was a concern and we were busy monitoring the engines which they continued to run with normal indications. The F/as advised us of the smell and they had noted vibration which smoothed out after a few mins.
