Narrative:

At fixed base ramp picked up clearance, latest ATIS, and began movement toward taxiway, changing frequency. Stopped short of taxiway. Ground called and said he could not contact me. Hold for airline taxiing south, then, 'you're too close--taxi to 1R ahead of airliner.' no further problem. The airliner did have clearance, but not much. Problem arose from being on ATIS while moving on ramp. Ground called me, then, finding I was not on ground frequency, stopped the airliner, fearing I would intrude on taxiway. This is easy to cure. Contact ground before moving, even if you are back at the wash rack area, out of sight. Analogous to running the checklist after doing the procedure. I saw the airliner, I knew he had clearance, I knew I would stop, but I was the only person on the airport that did.
