Narrative:

During a relief briefing at sector 32 corp X was climbed to FL410 and cleared direct on course. Several conflictions were being resolved and the sector was busy. When the sector was assumed the conflict alert was activated with air carrier Y at FL390 and corp X out of FL392. Both aircraft were issued left turns to avoid each other and attempt to gain required separation. The snitch was not activated although it is questionable whether there was required separation. I feel that the sector was too busy for a relief briefing, and should have required a tracker instead.
