Narrative:

Our filed flight routing read 'clt...robay...hmv...cvg...shb...ind.' when we picked up our clearance from clt clearance delivery. We received the following clearance and read it back in its entirety: 'cleared via the hornet 3 departure sadie transition, 8000', radar vectors to flm as filed...' on climb out over robay intersection, we turned toward hmv. Shortly thereafter ZTL questioned our route. He assumed we would go out to sadie before turning. As this is a newly worded departure, I told him that I would have the company work out a better or more easily understood canned routing.

ON CLBOUT OVER ROBAY INTXN, WE TURNED TOWARD HMV. SHORTLY THEREAFTER ZTL QUESTIONED OUR RTE. HE ASSUMED WE WOULD GO OUT TO SADIE BEFORE TURNING.
