Narrative:
Captain flying. ZLA gave us a 20 degree turn to the right and a climb to FL350. Captain misunderstood the turn as 20 degrees to the left. Center had to turn another aircraft to avoid a conflict. First officer did not catch the error until about the same time center did and gave a 40 degree turn to the right.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG IN CRUISE MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC 20 DEGREES RIGHT. TURNED LEFT AND CTLR INTERVENED TO SEPARATE TRAFFIC.
Narrative: CAPT FLYING. ZLA GAVE US A 20 DEG TURN TO THE RIGHT AND A CLB TO FL350. CAPT MISUNDERSTOOD THE TURN AS 20 DEGS TO THE LEFT. CENTER HAD TO TURN ANOTHER ACFT TO AVOID A CONFLICT. F/O DID NOT CATCH THE ERROR UNTIL ABOUT THE SAME TIME CENTER DID AND GAVE A 40 DEG TURN TO THE RIGHT.
