Narrative:

Practicing soft field landing with CFI in right seat. Had gear override switch engaged to prevent premature gear deployment. No horn sounded. Both pilot and CFI became distracted by slower small aircraft Y doing pattern work in front of us. I failed to use written checklist. Tried to rely on verbal gump, which I failed to do on this landing. Supplemental information from acn 177383: I was giving commercial instruction to a 1500 hour private pilot in his own single engine small aircraft. On the fourth approach the pilot did not put the gear down and I did not notice it, nor did I notice that he had disabled the automatic gear lowering function. We were both shocked when the aircraft touched down with the gear up. There were no injuries and the only damage observed other than the bent propeller was minor skin damage to the nose gear doors, flaps and step.
