Narrative:

I was flying VFR into the bigspring airport. The traffic pattern for runway 35 is a left hand pattern away from the city. The traffic pattern for 17 is also left hand but takes you over the city, several tall antennas, a state park on top of a mountain, and a federal prison. I flew a right hand pattern for 17 which takes you over uninhabited farm land. A GADO rep was on the ground and told me that the pattern was left for 17, but even he had to look it up due to the terrain situation. I called unicom for an airport advisory and announced my intentions and location on all turns. This was a part 91 aircraft relocation trip.
