Narrative:

Immediately after takeoff upon entering IMC approximately 1500', the SID for sjc (sunol departure) fell on floor of cockpit. I flew the procedure as best as I could remember and apparently turned to heading of 040 degree too early. ATC gave new heading, which I responded too slowly due to disorientation while attempting to reach the SID. No incident occurred. Recurrence of this problem will be avoided by attaching IFR plates to a more right structure. Also, I will immediately inform ATC of situation and request vectors when possible.
