Narrative:

We departed runway 16 at hpn and were on runway heading and cleared to contact departure. Departure asked us our heading and we replied runway heading. They advised us to turn to 310 then 320 degrees, and asked us what we were given by the tower. We replied runway heading. Departure advised us that we were given the westchester 9 departure, which states, 'out of 800', turn right to 320 degrees.' the chart that displays the 9 departure had 2 folds, and the departure instructions were broken down in 2 parts near the lower left-hand corner and the other halves on the lower right-hand corner. The folds hid the lower right-hand corner instruction, and we were departing to the west and did not see the part about the right turn to 320 degrees. Westchester departure is enclosed and folded as it was in the approach book. Splitting up these instructions contributed to the problem.

Title: CPR ACFT DEPARTING HPN FOLLOWED RWY HEADING INSTEAD OF PUBLISHED DEP TURN 320 DEGREES AT 800 MSL. DID NOT READ OTHER SIDE OF FOLDED CHART.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED RWY 16 AT HPN AND WERE ON RWY HDG AND CLRED TO CONTACT DEP. DEP ASKED US OUR HDG AND WE REPLIED RWY HDG. THEY ADVISED US TO TURN TO 310 THEN 320 DEGS, AND ASKED US WHAT WE WERE GIVEN BY THE TWR. WE REPLIED RWY HDG. DEP ADVISED US THAT WE WERE GIVEN THE WESTCHESTER 9 DEP, WHICH STATES, 'OUT OF 800', TURN RIGHT TO 320 DEGS.' THE CHART THAT DISPLAYS THE 9 DEP HAD 2 FOLDS, AND THE DEP INSTRUCTIONS WERE BROKEN DOWN IN 2 PARTS NEAR THE LOWER LEFT-HAND CORNER AND THE OTHER HALVES ON THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND CORNER. THE FOLDS HID THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND CORNER INSTRUCTION, AND WE WERE DEPARTING TO THE W AND DID NOT SEE THE PART ABOUT THE RIGHT TURN TO 320 DEGS. WESTCHESTER DEP IS ENCLOSED AND FOLDED AS IT WAS IN THE APCH BOOK. SPLITTING UP THESE INSTRUCTIONS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROB.
