Narrative:

Airplane was airborne and upon retracting the gear a left maintenance gear door light remained on. Tower said we left tread on the runway. We determined there was a left main outboard tire blown, after extending the gear and inspecting the tire. With safe gear indications and flaps 2 degree, we dumped approximately 12000 pounds of fuel. Returned to rdu for safe landing. Stopped straight ahead, deplaned the passengers with portable stairs on the runway.
