Narrative:

We departed boise, identification, en route to salt lake with a terminal forecast at slc of 4000' ceiling 3 mi visibility. I have only flown the airplane once before so I was inexperienced in the small transport aircraft I was flying. When we got to slc the WX was IMC with 2000 RVR and snow showers. I only have 16 hours in actual IFR making me very intimidated in flying the approach. When we began getting vectors from slc approach control I began getting vertigo. As a result I began getting behind the airplane and began deviating from headings and altitudes. The person I was flying with had a lot of time in the aircraft but wasn't instrument rated so he took over the aircraft and I gave him instruction thinking he would have better control of the aircraft since he was much more comfortable in it. We were then vectored on ILS runway 34L with him still flying. We continued down the ILS. ATC asked us to hold 170 KTS which we did not do as we flew down the ILS our airspeed varied and we chased the localizer and the G/south then close to decision height when the localizer pegged to the left at that time ATC called our missed approach. Coming back around I realized I needed to take over the aircraft. They revectored us back around and I still had vertigo and tried to keep my headings but I still wandered. I also missed some of the headings in communications with ATC. Once on the ILS a second time, I couldn't keep my airspeed above 145 KTS due to maximum gear speed but I never communicated this to ATC. This approach concluded with a safe landing.

Title: PLT OF SMT INEXPERIENCED IN ACFT MISSED APCH TO INDEFINITE CEILING AT SLC.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED BOISE, ID, ENRTE TO SALT LAKE WITH A TERMINAL FORECAST AT SLC OF 4000' CEILING 3 MI VISIBILITY. I HAVE ONLY FLOWN THE AIRPLANE ONCE BEFORE SO I WAS INEXPERIENCED IN THE SMT ACFT I WAS FLYING. WHEN WE GOT TO SLC THE WX WAS IMC WITH 2000 RVR AND SNOW SHOWERS. I ONLY HAVE 16 HRS IN ACTUAL IFR MAKING ME VERY INTIMIDATED IN FLYING THE APCH. WHEN WE BEGAN GETTING VECTORS FROM SLC APCH CTL I BEGAN GETTING VERTIGO. AS A RESULT I BEGAN GETTING BEHIND THE AIRPLANE AND BEGAN DEVIATING FROM HDGS AND ALTS. THE PERSON I WAS FLYING WITH HAD A LOT OF TIME IN THE ACFT BUT WASN'T INSTRUMENT RATED SO HE TOOK OVER THE ACFT AND I GAVE HIM INSTRUCTION THINKING HE WOULD HAVE BETTER CTL OF THE ACFT SINCE HE WAS MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE IN IT. WE WERE THEN VECTORED ON ILS RWY 34L WITH HIM STILL FLYING. WE CONTINUED DOWN THE ILS. ATC ASKED US TO HOLD 170 KTS WHICH WE DID NOT DO AS WE FLEW DOWN THE ILS OUR AIRSPD VARIED AND WE CHASED THE LOC AND THE G/S THEN CLOSE TO DECISION HEIGHT WHEN THE LOC PEGGED TO THE L AT THAT TIME ATC CALLED OUR MISSED APCH. COMING BACK AROUND I REALIZED I NEEDED TO TAKE OVER THE ACFT. THEY REVECTORED US BACK AROUND AND I STILL HAD VERTIGO AND TRIED TO KEEP MY HDGS BUT I STILL WANDERED. I ALSO MISSED SOME OF THE HDGS IN COMS WITH ATC. ONCE ON THE ILS A SEC TIME, I COULDN'T KEEP MY AIRSPD ABOVE 145 KTS DUE TO MAX GEAR SPD BUT I NEVER COMMUNICATED THIS TO ATC. THIS APCH CONCLUDED WITH A SAFE LNDG.
