Narrative:

I contacted danbury ground for a clearance to taxi from a parked location to an FBO across the field. I was not familiar with the field and all the intxns; however, I did know where I was with respect to where I wanted to go to. Directly in front of my parked location, there was a taxiway which led to runway 17-35 (south end). The active runway at the time was 17. ATC cleared me to taxi and hold at the active runway. I then progressed up to the hold line of runway 17-35 (south end) directly in front (about 60') of my original parked location. ATC did not inform me at this time that I was holding at the wrong area. Due to lack of clear and timely communications, I crossed (when I was cleared to do so) at the wrong end of runway 17-35 while another aircraft was moving toward me. In retrospect, ATC intended me to cross behind the traffic (at a taxiway midway down the runway) and not in front of it. ATC realized my location when I was halfway across runway 17-35 and informed me to stop, and almost immediately told me to continue taxi when ATC saw that I was already halfway across runway 17. At no time were the 2 aircraft in danger of collision. ATC should have been more alert by informing me that I was holding at the wrong end of the runway. Instead, ATC was chatting on the radio with me about the FBO which I was en route to.

Title: SMA X CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY IN FRONT OF AN ACFT ROLLING OUT AFTER LNDG.

Narrative: I CONTACTED DANBURY GND FOR A CLRNC TO TAXI FROM A PARKED LOCATION TO AN FBO ACROSS THE FIELD. I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE FIELD AND ALL THE INTXNS; HOWEVER, I DID KNOW WHERE I WAS WITH RESPECT TO WHERE I WANTED TO GO TO. DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF MY PARKED LOCATION, THERE WAS A TXWY WHICH LED TO RWY 17-35 (S END). THE ACTIVE RWY AT THE TIME WAS 17. ATC CLRED ME TO TAXI AND HOLD AT THE ACTIVE RWY. I THEN PROGRESSED UP TO THE HOLD LINE OF RWY 17-35 (S END) DIRECTLY IN FRONT (ABOUT 60') OF MY ORIGINAL PARKED LOCATION. ATC DID NOT INFORM ME AT THIS TIME THAT I WAS HOLDING AT THE WRONG AREA. DUE TO LACK OF CLR AND TIMELY COMS, I CROSSED (WHEN I WAS CLRED TO DO SO) AT THE WRONG END OF RWY 17-35 WHILE ANOTHER ACFT WAS MOVING TOWARD ME. IN RETROSPECT, ATC INTENDED ME TO CROSS BEHIND THE TFC (AT A TXWY MIDWAY DOWN THE RWY) AND NOT IN FRONT OF IT. ATC REALIZED MY LOCATION WHEN I WAS HALFWAY ACROSS RWY 17-35 AND INFORMED ME TO STOP, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME TO CONTINUE TAXI WHEN ATC SAW THAT I WAS ALREADY HALFWAY ACROSS RWY 17. AT NO TIME WERE THE 2 ACFT IN DANGER OF COLLISION. ATC SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE ALERT BY INFORMING ME THAT I WAS HOLDING AT THE WRONG END OF THE RWY. INSTEAD, ATC WAS CHATTING ON THE RADIO WITH ME ABOUT THE FBO WHICH I WAS ENRTE TO.
