Narrative:

I wanted to cross from the west side to the east side of airport. Obtained ground control clearance to hold short of runway 19R at delta taxiway. I did so, and later heard a transmission by ground control to cross west/O delay (expedite) nxy---. My regulation no is n---xya. After the xy the frequency became slightly garbled and I assumed that the tower was referring to me. As it turns out, they were talking to another plane with a similar regulation no at a different location on the field (small aircraft xy---). As I reached the midpoint first officer the runway, I observed an small transport departing down field. Having already committed to the runway, I continued across as fast at possible. From the south end of the field it is impossible to see a plane departing from the north end until it is airborne due to the slope of the runway. The problem was simply a communication failure due to frequency congestion at a very busy airport.

Title: SMA CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY CONTRARY TO CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT.

Narrative: I WANTED TO CROSS FROM THE W SIDE TO THE E SIDE OF ARPT. OBTAINED GND CTL CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19R AT DELTA TXWY. I DID SO, AND LATER HEARD A XMISSION BY GND CTL TO CROSS W/O DELAY (EXPEDITE) NXY---. MY REG NO IS N---XYA. AFTER THE XY THE FREQ BECAME SLIGHTLY GARBLED AND I ASSUMED THAT THE TWR WAS REFERRING TO ME. AS IT TURNS OUT, THEY WERE TALKING TO ANOTHER PLANE WITH A SIMILAR REG NO AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON THE FIELD (SMA XY---). AS I REACHED THE MIDPOINT FO THE RWY, I OBSERVED AN SMT DEPARTING DOWN FIELD. HAVING ALREADY COMMITTED TO THE RWY, I CONTINUED ACROSS AS FAST AT POSSIBLE. FROM THE S END OF THE FIELD IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE A PLANE DEPARTING FROM THE N END UNTIL IT IS AIRBORNE DUE TO THE SLOPE OF THE RWY. THE PROB WAS SIMPLY A COM FAILURE DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION AT A VERY BUSY ARPT.
