Narrative:

Was completing a x-country leg from winslow, az to P19. When approximately 34 me DME from MP19, ZAB handed me off to phx approach. I contacted phx approach and was greeted. On the edge of city lights of mesa, az, phx approach stepped me down from 10500' MSL to 8800' MSL. Being so close to town I knew the other steps down in altitude would come fast so I raised the nose, slowed to approximately 105 KTS and dropped the gear so as to use the drag to help my needed rapid descent. With 3 gear lights indicating, I then proceeded to step down and with phx approximately instructions I went to 8880', 6500', 5500', 3500', 2500' MSL and phx had me squawk 1200 and resume own navigation to P19 with clearance to use CTAF for calls in the blind as landing at P19. There was no visible or communication traffic in the pattern at P19. I entered a 2 mi final leg for runway 27, lowered power to 600 RPM after gumps check. All was smooth on final. I touched down approximately 40 yds beyond the #south and within 4 seconds, the gear collapsed. The aircraft started sliding right, so I added right rudder and kept the slide straight for approximately 60-100 yds. When the aircraft came to rest right of center near a taxiway, I crawled out and ran, after assessing my aircraft's damage, to aviation fuel truck, grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out a small fuel fire and ran 6 blocks home to make necessary notifications and reassure my wife. FSDO is claiming the gear was not down on landing and is requiring a complete flight check and ground review. Aircraft is on the gear, but has not been repaired. No indication at the time as to why the gear failed, if in fact it was down on the landing. Reporter says he had 3 green lights and the gear warning horn was not sounding. All 3 gear were retracted and minor damage done to the belly, propeller.

Title: ACFT LNDG ON ROLLOUT GEAR COLLAPSE.

Narrative: WAS COMPLETING A X-COUNTRY LEG FROM WINSLOW, AZ TO P19. WHEN APPROX 34 ME DME FROM MP19, ZAB HANDED ME OFF TO PHX APCH. I CONTACTED PHX APCH AND WAS GREETED. ON THE EDGE OF CITY LIGHTS OF MESA, AZ, PHX APCH STEPPED ME DOWN FROM 10500' MSL TO 8800' MSL. BEING SO CLOSE TO TOWN I KNEW THE OTHER STEPS DOWN IN ALT WOULD COME FAST SO I RAISED THE NOSE, SLOWED TO APPROX 105 KTS AND DROPPED THE GEAR SO AS TO USE THE DRAG TO HELP MY NEEDED RAPID DSNT. WITH 3 GEAR LIGHTS INDICATING, I THEN PROCEEDED TO STEP DOWN AND WITH PHX APPROX INSTRUCTIONS I WENT TO 8880', 6500', 5500', 3500', 2500' MSL AND PHX HAD ME SQUAWK 1200 AND RESUME OWN NAV TO P19 WITH CLRNC TO USE CTAF FOR CALLS IN THE BLIND AS LNDG AT P19. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE OR COM TFC IN THE PATTERN AT P19. I ENTERED A 2 MI FINAL LEG FOR RWY 27, LOWERED PWR TO 600 RPM AFTER GUMPS CHK. ALL WAS SMOOTH ON FINAL. I TOUCHED DOWN APPROX 40 YDS BEYOND THE #S AND WITHIN 4 SECS, THE GEAR COLLAPSED. THE ACFT STARTED SLIDING RIGHT, SO I ADDED RIGHT RUDDER AND KEPT THE SLIDE STRAIGHT FOR APPROX 60-100 YDS. WHEN THE ACFT CAME TO REST RIGHT OF CENTER NEAR A TXWY, I CRAWLED OUT AND RAN, AFTER ASSESSING MY ACFT'S DAMAGE, TO AVIATION FUEL TRUCK, GRABBED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT OUT A SMALL FUEL FIRE AND RAN 6 BLOCKS HOME TO MAKE NECESSARY NOTIFICATIONS AND REASSURE MY WIFE. FSDO IS CLAIMING THE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN ON LNDG AND IS REQUIRING A COMPLETE FLT CHK AND GND REVIEW. ACFT IS ON THE GEAR, BUT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. NO INDICATION AT THE TIME AS TO WHY THE GEAR FAILED, IF IN FACT IT WAS DOWN ON THE LNDG. RPTR SAYS HE HAD 3 GREEN LIGHTS AND THE GEAR WARNING HORN WAS NOT SOUNDING. ALL 3 GEAR WERE RETRACTED AND MINOR DAMAGE DONE TO THE BELLY, PROP.
