Narrative:

While holding at the approach end of runway 29, behind the hold line, not on the runway, we received a takeoff clearance from the tower, which was read back and acknowledged. We taxied onto runway 29, completed six final takeoff checklist items, which takes approximately 10 seconds to complete, then proceeded with the takeoff roll. Approximately 1000' down the runway, the tower controller yelled at us to hold short. We immediately aborted the takeoff and stopped the aircraft on the runway at intersection bravo (approximately 2200' from the start of the takeoff roll; runway 29 is 7001'). The tower controller then began reprimanding us for not complying with an alleged holding clearance, which neither crew member heard nor acknowledged with a readback. We were then cleared to the approach end of runway 20 for a completed takeoff and departure. (Apparently there was another aircraft on a crossing runway that was the cause of the aborted takeoff. We saw the aircraft stopped after we had come to a stop. There was no mention of the other aircraft by us or the tower). This situation could have been eliminated by following standard procedure of the tower receiving a readback or acknowledgement of all directives issued by them and not assuming the crew received it.

Title: FLT CREW OF SMT CPR ACFT ALLEGEDLY FAILED TO HOLD IN POSITION. COMMENCED TKOF AND TWR INSTRUCTED THEM TO ABORT THE TKOF.

Narrative: WHILE HOLDING AT THE APCH END OF RWY 29, BEHIND THE HOLD LINE, NOT ON THE RWY, WE RECEIVED A TKOF CLRNC FROM THE TWR, WHICH WAS READ BACK AND ACKNOWLEDGED. WE TAXIED ONTO RWY 29, COMPLETED SIX FINAL TKOF CHKLIST ITEMS, WHICH TAKES APPROX 10 SECS TO COMPLETE, THEN PROCEEDED WITH THE TKOF ROLL. APPROX 1000' DOWN THE RWY, THE TWR CTLR YELLED AT US TO HOLD SHORT. WE IMMEDIATELY ABORTED THE TKOF AND STOPPED THE ACFT ON THE RWY AT INTXN BRAVO (APPROX 2200' FROM THE START OF THE TKOF ROLL; RWY 29 IS 7001'). THE TWR CTLR THEN BEGAN REPRIMANDING US FOR NOT COMPLYING WITH AN ALLEGED HOLDING CLRNC, WHICH NEITHER CREW MEMBER HEARD NOR ACKNOWLEDGED WITH A READBACK. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO THE APCH END OF RWY 20 FOR A COMPLETED TKOF AND DEP. (APPARENTLY THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT ON A XING RWY THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ABORTED TKOF. WE SAW THE ACFT STOPPED AFTER WE HAD COME TO A STOP. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE OTHER ACFT BY US OR THE TWR). THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED BY FOLLOWING STANDARD PROC OF THE TWR RECEIVING A READBACK OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ALL DIRECTIVES ISSUED BY THEM AND NOT ASSUMING THE CREW RECEIVED IT.
