Narrative:

After we started takeoff roll, second officer called out traffic. I saw an small aircraft in the landing pattern and said, 'roger, keep an eye on him.' after rotation and liftoff, captain said, 'better turn right and climb.' I stated that I didn't have the traffic (he was on the left side), and the captain took the aircraft. Captain later stated that we passed over a single engine small aircraft by about 100'. When I called hobby tower immediately after the incident, they apologized for not calling out the traffic and that he was supposed to pass behind us. Lesson: stay alert for traffic, even in control zones. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter described the near midair collision in greater detail. He said he wasn't sure of the small aircraft's destination and had no idea why the small aircraft did not pass behind them as cleared.
