Narrative:

4 or 5 aircraft were in the pattern at aeg. Another aircraft called in on ILS 3 mi final. Except for my aircraft, all were small aircraft high wing. As I was about to turn base, I looked for the aircraft on the ILS. An small aircraft was touching down. I did not see any other aircraft, so I assumed this was the ILS traffic. I turned base and called on CTAF. I turned final and called on CTAF. Suddenly, below me and rising was another small aircraft. No evasive action was necessary, as now I had it in sight and it was clear we would not collide. Earlier, I had called some ILS traffic to ask their location. I should have this time, also. The problem was compounded by all aircraft except mine being similar and easily confused. The other aircraft gave no sign that it saw me or heard my CTAF calls. At least 1 person on the ground noticed the conflict. I found this out after landing. I have seen many conflicts at aeg (where my aircraft is based) between ILS traffic and VFR traffic. The VFR traffic does not always keep up with the practice ILS people. The ILS people often only make 1 cal at 3 mi out and are never heard from again. I wonder if they are listening to CTAF once they are close to the airport. I also should be keeping track of other aircraft in the pattern more closely than I was. I was practicing lndgs to maintain proficiency and was not paying enough attention to traffic while concentrating on the landing.

Title: PLT OF SMA IN TRAFFIC PATTERN TURNED INTO FINAL AND HAD NMAC WITH ANOTHER SMA ON ILS APCH.

Narrative: 4 OR 5 ACFT WERE IN THE PATTERN AT AEG. ANOTHER ACFT CALLED IN ON ILS 3 MI FINAL. EXCEPT FOR MY ACFT, ALL WERE SMA HIGH WING. AS I WAS ABOUT TO TURN BASE, I LOOKED FOR THE ACFT ON THE ILS. AN SMA WAS TOUCHING DOWN. I DID NOT SEE ANY OTHER ACFT, SO I ASSUMED THIS WAS THE ILS TFC. I TURNED BASE AND CALLED ON CTAF. I TURNED FINAL AND CALLED ON CTAF. SUDDENLY, BELOW ME AND RISING WAS ANOTHER SMA. NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS NECESSARY, AS NOW I HAD IT IN SIGHT AND IT WAS CLR WE WOULD NOT COLLIDE. EARLIER, I HAD CALLED SOME ILS TFC TO ASK THEIR LOCATION. I SHOULD HAVE THIS TIME, ALSO. THE PROB WAS COMPOUNDED BY ALL ACFT EXCEPT MINE BEING SIMILAR AND EASILY CONFUSED. THE OTHER ACFT GAVE NO SIGN THAT IT SAW ME OR HEARD MY CTAF CALLS. AT LEAST 1 PERSON ON THE GND NOTICED THE CONFLICT. I FOUND THIS OUT AFTER LNDG. I HAVE SEEN MANY CONFLICTS AT AEG (WHERE MY ACFT IS BASED) BTWN ILS TFC AND VFR TFC. THE VFR TFC DOES NOT ALWAYS KEEP UP WITH THE PRACTICE ILS PEOPLE. THE ILS PEOPLE OFTEN ONLY MAKE 1 CAL AT 3 MI OUT AND ARE NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN. I WONDER IF THEY ARE LISTENING TO CTAF ONCE THEY ARE CLOSE TO THE ARPT. I ALSO SHOULD BE KEEPING TRACK OF OTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN MORE CLOSELY THAN I WAS. I WAS PRACTICING LNDGS TO MAINTAIN PROFICIENCY AND WAS NOT PAYING ENOUGH ATTN TO TFC WHILE CONCENTRATING ON THE LNDG.
