Narrative:

During cruise flight, the TCAS system idented an aircraft ahead of us with an indicated altitude of FL28.2. ATC called traffic which we could not see due to IFR conditions. TCAS then gave us a resolution advisory at which time the first officer notified ATC and then climbed approximately 200'. Immediately after passing the traffic, the first officer returned to FL290. I never saw the other aircraft.

Title: ARTCC CALLED TRAFFIC. TCAS NOTED TRAFFIC AT 28200' AND GAVE RA. FLC CLIMBED 29200' THEN RETURNED TO FL290. ARTCC WAS ADVISED OF DEVIATION.

Narrative: DURING CRUISE FLT, THE TCAS SYS IDENTED AN ACFT AHEAD OF US WITH AN INDICATED ALT OF FL28.2. ATC CALLED TFC WHICH WE COULD NOT SEE DUE TO IFR CONDITIONS. TCAS THEN GAVE US A RESOLUTION ADVISORY AT WHICH TIME THE F/O NOTIFIED ATC AND THEN CLBED APPROX 200'. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PASSING THE TFC, THE F/O RETURNED TO FL290. I NEVER SAW THE OTHER ACFT.
