Narrative:

Cruising north on J79 at FL290, I noticed a southbound aircraft on the TCAS approaching at FL282. It triggered a traffic alert, but I could not pick it up visually. When it caused an RA with the red vertical speed bar up to 0, I informed center and started a slight climb to get out of the red bar and eliminate the RA. Prior to initiating the climb, I noticed that there were no aircraft in front and above on the TCAS. I climbed 200' to about 292. The red bar received and I returned to FL290. I was unable to pick up the aircraft visually. There was no danger of a collision that I could see. It appears that this was caused by the other aircraft flying 200' high, or its equipment reporting in accurately. Our TCAS showed al aircraft on flight level. This was not a dangerous situation. The RA response and report were made to document TCAS performance.

Title: LGT CLIMBED 200' TO RESOLVE TCAS II RA.

Narrative: CRUISING N ON J79 AT FL290, I NOTICED A SBND ACFT ON THE TCAS APCHING AT FL282. IT TRIGGERED A TFC ALERT, BUT I COULD NOT PICK IT UP VISUALLY. WHEN IT CAUSED AN RA WITH THE RED VERT SPD BAR UP TO 0, I INFORMED CENTER AND STARTED A SLIGHT CLB TO GET OUT OF THE RED BAR AND ELIMINATE THE RA. PRIOR TO INITIATING THE CLB, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO ACFT IN FRONT AND ABOVE ON THE TCAS. I CLBED 200' TO ABOUT 292. THE RED BAR RECEIVED AND I RETURNED TO FL290. I WAS UNABLE TO PICK UP THE ACFT VISUALLY. THERE WAS NO DANGER OF A COLLISION THAT I COULD SEE. IT APPEARS THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE OTHER ACFT FLYING 200' HIGH, OR ITS EQUIP RPTING IN ACCURATELY. OUR TCAS SHOWED AL ACFT ON FLT LEVEL. THIS WAS NOT A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE RA RESPONSE AND RPT WERE MADE TO DOCUMENT TCAS PERFORMANCE.
