Narrative:

We were being vectored for an ILS runway 16R at vny. The turn was well over 90 with a 130 heading to intercept. ATC changed the heading to 190 to intercept from the other side. The aircraft started to descend even with altitude hold on. I disengaged the auto pilot to recapture the altitude by hand. We got a sudden uncommanded go around. The pm (pilot monitoring) then re-entered the ILS and we tried to recapture the ILS. Again we had a go around. We were VMC and saw the terrain and vny and I decided to just manually land the plane rather than go IFR. We never had a egpws warning and temporarily lost ATC com. We landed without further incident.
