Narrative:

After landing on runway 15L at jan, turned off runway onto high speed taxiway. Ramp construction barriers were sighted ahead. Stopped aircraft and requested taxi instructions from ground control. Ground control directed a sharp right turn onto intersecting taxiway. While making this turn, right main gear xed edge of grass divider strip. When parked at the gate, I checked right main gear and found mud on right gear tires. Made an entry in aircraft maintenance log requesting inspection at right main gear for possible damage. Contacted ground control on radio, telling them what had happened and requested a check of taxiway for possible taxiway light damage. Right main gear was washed and inspected. No damage found. Results of taxiway inspection is unknown. Cause of problem was unfamiliar airport at night with construction barriers obstructing normal taxi patterns; pilots inability to see clearly taxiway that he was cleared to turn onto; and being unaware of the close proximity of grass divider strip. Situation could be corrected by posting clearly marked alternate taxi rtes while construction is in progress or by receiving less demanding sharp turn instructions to comply with alternate taxi rtes. Supplemental information from 171702. The lack of lights on taxiway for night operation, led directly to this mishap. No lighted signs telling you where any txwys are. Also no lights on the construction area, where it blocked the ramp, were visible.

Title: TXWY EXCURSION IN A NIGHT OPERATION.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 15L AT JAN, TURNED OFF RWY ONTO HIGH SPD TXWY. RAMP CONSTRUCTION BARRIERS WERE SIGHTED AHEAD. STOPPED ACFT AND REQUESTED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND CTL. GND CTL DIRECTED A SHARP R TURN ONTO INTERSECTING TXWY. WHILE MAKING THIS TURN, R MAIN GEAR XED EDGE OF GRASS DIVIDER STRIP. WHEN PARKED AT THE GATE, I CHKED R MAIN GEAR AND FOUND MUD ON R GEAR TIRES. MADE AN ENTRY IN ACFT MAINT LOG REQUESTING INSPECTION AT R MAIN GEAR FOR POSSIBLE DAMAGE. CONTACTED GND CTL ON RADIO, TELLING THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND REQUESTED A CHK OF TXWY FOR POSSIBLE TXWY LIGHT DAMAGE. R MAIN GEAR WAS WASHED AND INSPECTED. NO DAMAGE FOUND. RESULTS OF TXWY INSPECTION IS UNKNOWN. CAUSE OF PROB WAS UNFAMILIAR ARPT AT NIGHT WITH CONSTRUCTION BARRIERS OBSTRUCTING NORMAL TAXI PATTERNS; PLTS INABILITY TO SEE CLRLY TXWY THAT HE WAS CLRED TO TURN ONTO; AND BEING UNAWARE OF THE CLOSE PROX OF GRASS DIVIDER STRIP. SITUATION COULD BE CORRECTED BY POSTING CLRLY MARKED ALTERNATE TAXI RTES WHILE CONSTRUCTION IS IN PROGRESS OR BY RECEIVING LESS DEMANDING SHARP TURN INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPLY WITH ALTERNATE TAXI RTES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM 171702. THE LACK OF LIGHTS ON TXWY FOR NIGHT OPERATION, LED DIRECTLY TO THIS MISHAP. NO LIGHTED SIGNS TELLING YOU WHERE ANY TXWYS ARE. ALSO NO LIGHTS ON THE CONSTRUCTION AREA, WHERE IT BLOCKED THE RAMP, WERE VISIBLE.
