Narrative:

I was flying from corona airport to chino, heading north below 2700' MSL. Monitored chino ATIS. Runway 8 was in use. I contacted chino tower and was told to report downwind. I reported downwind, abeam the tower, at 1400' MSL for right traffic (south of field). Tower said, 'extend your downwind, will call your base.' tower said, 'turn base.' at this time I was adjacent the end of runway 8 and felt it was early to turn base, however I turned right base for runway 8. I turned a short final (1/4 mi) for runway 8 at 1400' (slow, full flaps). At this point I noticed another aircraft at the far end of runway 8 (runway 26). Aircraft had 2 landing lights on and appeared to be in a takeoff roll. I gave full power, turned right and retracted 1 notch of flaps. I believe I was at approximately 1000'. I called tower, said there appeared to be a jet on the runway taking off in the wrong direction. Tower asked if there were 2 parallel runways. I confirmed. It was clear at this point that I had overshot chino and was into ont's airspace. Tower asked our altitude and heading. Confirmed 120 degrees (don't remember altitude). I flew to chino and entered left traffic for runway 8. Chino ground asked me to call ont tower. I gave them all the particulars that I could remember at the time. My communication with chino tower led me to believe he had me in sight or on radar and I failed to question my location. Confirming visibility location would have reduced the chance of airspace intrusion.

Title: GA PLT MISTAKES ONT FOR CNO, MAKES WRONG ARPT APCH.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING FROM CORONA ARPT TO CHINO, HDG N BELOW 2700' MSL. MONITORED CHINO ATIS. RWY 8 WAS IN USE. I CONTACTED CHINO TWR AND WAS TOLD TO RPT DOWNWIND. I RPTED DOWNWIND, ABEAM THE TWR, AT 1400' MSL FOR RIGHT TFC (S OF FIELD). TWR SAID, 'EXTEND YOUR DOWNWIND, WILL CALL YOUR BASE.' TWR SAID, 'TURN BASE.' AT THIS TIME I WAS ADJACENT THE END OF RWY 8 AND FELT IT WAS EARLY TO TURN BASE, HOWEVER I TURNED RIGHT BASE FOR RWY 8. I TURNED A SHORT FINAL (1/4 MI) FOR RWY 8 AT 1400' (SLOW, FULL FLAPS). AT THIS POINT I NOTICED ANOTHER ACFT AT THE FAR END OF RWY 8 (RWY 26). ACFT HAD 2 LNDG LIGHTS ON AND APPEARED TO BE IN A TKOF ROLL. I GAVE FULL PWR, TURNED RIGHT AND RETRACTED 1 NOTCH OF FLAPS. I BELIEVE I WAS AT APPROX 1000'. I CALLED TWR, SAID THERE APPEARED TO BE A JET ON THE RWY TAKING OFF IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. TWR ASKED IF THERE WERE 2 PARALLEL RWYS. I CONFIRMED. IT WAS CLR AT THIS POINT THAT I HAD OVERSHOT CHINO AND WAS INTO ONT'S AIRSPACE. TWR ASKED OUR ALT AND HDG. CONFIRMED 120 DEGS (DON'T REMEMBER ALT). I FLEW TO CHINO AND ENTERED LEFT TFC FOR RWY 8. CHINO GND ASKED ME TO CALL ONT TWR. I GAVE THEM ALL THE PARTICULARS THAT I COULD REMEMBER AT THE TIME. MY COM WITH CHINO TWR LED ME TO BELIEVE HE HAD ME IN SIGHT OR ON RADAR AND I FAILED TO QUESTION MY LOCATION. CONFIRMING VIS LOCATION WOULD HAVE REDUCED THE CHANCE OF AIRSPACE INTRUSION.
