Narrative:

Our flight into lga was on final approach to runway 4. Approach told us to keep our speed up. We were very light, and we were a little slower than normal speed. We kept our speed up as much as practical until inside the marker, when obviously it was necessary to slow to final approach speed with gear and flaps down. After a normal T/D on runway 4 and normal reverse and braking were applied, tower asked us to make a turnoff at the intersection of runway 4 and runway 13. Unfortunately at this time we were abeam this intersection, so I informed tower we would not be able to make that turnoff. Tower then told medium large transport Y to go around. Incredulously, the captain of the medium large transport Y then commented on tower, 'thanks, large transport X!' this was the most unprofessional act I have witnessed in some time. We were not told by tower that there was a conflict with a flight this close behind us. We were not told prior to landing to make an early turnoff. I feel 2 safety factors are involved here: first, we were not informed of the potential conflict until it was too late. Second, xmissions from the tower to an aircraft on its landing roll should be kept to a minimum (maybe even 0!) until the aircraft has slowed and actually commenced its turn off the runway. Emergencys are excepted, of course. I do not feel this was an emergency.

Title: LGT MISSED TURN OFF RWY AND CAUSED MLG TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: OUR FLT INTO LGA WAS ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 4. APCH TOLD US TO KEEP OUR SPD UP. WE WERE VERY LIGHT, AND WE WERE A LITTLE SLOWER THAN NORMAL SPD. WE KEPT OUR SPD UP AS MUCH AS PRACTICAL UNTIL INSIDE THE MARKER, WHEN OBVIOUSLY IT WAS NECESSARY TO SLOW TO FINAL APCH SPD WITH GEAR AND FLAPS DOWN. AFTER A NORMAL T/D ON RWY 4 AND NORMAL REVERSE AND BRAKING WERE APPLIED, TWR ASKED US TO MAKE A TURNOFF AT THE INTXN OF RWY 4 AND RWY 13. UNFORTUNATELY AT THIS TIME WE WERE ABEAM THIS INTXN, SO I INFORMED TWR WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT TURNOFF. TWR THEN TOLD MLG Y TO GO AROUND. INCREDULOUSLY, THE CAPT OF THE MLG Y THEN COMMENTED ON TWR, 'THANKS, LGT X!' THIS WAS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL ACT I HAVE WITNESSED IN SOME TIME. WE WERE NOT TOLD BY TWR THAT THERE WAS A CONFLICT WITH A FLT THIS CLOSE BEHIND US. WE WERE NOT TOLD PRIOR TO LNDG TO MAKE AN EARLY TURNOFF. I FEEL 2 SAFETY FACTORS ARE INVOLVED HERE: FIRST, WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE POTENTIAL CONFLICT UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. SECOND, XMISSIONS FROM THE TWR TO AN ACFT ON ITS LNDG ROLL SHOULD BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM (MAYBE EVEN 0!) UNTIL THE ACFT HAS SLOWED AND ACTUALLY COMMENCED ITS TURN OFF THE RWY. EMERS ARE EXCEPTED, OF COURSE. I DO NOT FEEL THIS WAS AN EMER.
