Narrative:

Captain was giving first officer IOE and this was first officer's fourth leg and fourth clearance, but first clearance and departure out of lga. Captain listened while first officer copied clearance and the captain was under the impression that takeoff would be on runway 13 with a whitestone climb. Captain then (at the gate) briefed the first officer on the lga 3 departure, whitestone climb. Captain then briefed the first officer again when aircraft was #2 for takeoff for whitestone climb, the same as above. After takeoff, turning to a heading of 040 degrees and switching to departure control. Departure control said, 'what climb clearance were you given?' captain said whitestone climb, but because of the tone of the controller's question, captain apologized if he made the wrong turn. Controller then said something reassuring, and then said, 'turn to a heading of 270 degrees and climb to 12000'.' reflections: later upon discussion with first officer as to what first officer read back to clearance delivery, first officer thought he said, '...lga #3 departure, coney climb, whitestone.' at the gate while captain was reviewing lga #3 departure, whitestone climb, first officer (being new) was probably looking for the lga #3 departure chart and not hearing what the captain was saying. Later when #2 for takeoff and the captain repeated the climb briefing, the first officer was concentrating on his first takeoff from lga, and said, 'just guide me through it.' captain assumes full responsibility for this misunderstanding of the clearance.

Title: ACR LGT TRACK HEADING DEP ON A SID FROM LGA.

Narrative: CAPT WAS GIVING F/O IOE AND THIS WAS F/O'S FOURTH LEG AND FOURTH CLRNC, BUT FIRST CLRNC AND DEP OUT OF LGA. CAPT LISTENED WHILE F/O COPIED CLRNC AND THE CAPT WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT TKOF WOULD BE ON RWY 13 WITH A WHITESTONE CLB. CAPT THEN (AT THE GATE) BRIEFED THE F/O ON THE LGA 3 DEP, WHITESTONE CLB. CAPT THEN BRIEFED THE F/O AGAIN WHEN ACFT WAS #2 FOR TKOF FOR WHITESTONE CLB, THE SAME AS ABOVE. AFTER TKOF, TURNING TO A HDG OF 040 DEGS AND SWITCHING TO DEP CTL. DEP CTL SAID, 'WHAT CLB CLRNC WERE YOU GIVEN?' CAPT SAID WHITESTONE CLB, BUT BECAUSE OF THE TONE OF THE CTLR'S QUESTION, CAPT APOLOGIZED IF HE MADE THE WRONG TURN. CTLR THEN SAID SOMETHING REASSURING, AND THEN SAID, 'TURN TO A HDG OF 270 DEGS AND CLB TO 12000'.' REFLECTIONS: LATER UPON DISCUSSION WITH F/O AS TO WHAT F/O READ BACK TO CLRNC DELIVERY, F/O THOUGHT HE SAID, '...LGA #3 DEP, CONEY CLB, WHITESTONE.' AT THE GATE WHILE CAPT WAS REVIEWING LGA #3 DEP, WHITESTONE CLB, F/O (BEING NEW) WAS PROBABLY LOOKING FOR THE LGA #3 DEP CHART AND NOT HEARING WHAT THE CAPT WAS SAYING. LATER WHEN #2 FOR TKOF AND THE CAPT REPEATED THE CLB BRIEFING, THE F/O WAS CONCENTRATING ON HIS FIRST TKOF FROM LGA, AND SAID, 'JUST GUIDE ME THROUGH IT.' CAPT ASSUMES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE CLRNC.
