Narrative:

We missed an ATC call to contact another center, dqn approach, en route to cvg. Center was extremely busy with other aircraft stepping all over each other's xmissions. I believe ATC called us with the new frequency. We didn't hear it and ZID never listened for a readback, thus falsely assuming we had made the switch. After approaching cvg we called center to see if they had forgotten to call us and were we surprised to find out they had called us earlier.

Title: MISSED FREQ CHANGE.

Narrative: WE MISSED AN ATC CALL TO CONTACT ANOTHER CTR, DQN APCH, ENRTE TO CVG. CTR WAS EXTREMELY BUSY WITH OTHER ACFT STEPPING ALL OVER EACH OTHER'S XMISSIONS. I BELIEVE ATC CALLED US WITH THE NEW FREQ. WE DIDN'T HEAR IT AND ZID NEVER LISTENED FOR A READBACK, THUS FALSELY ASSUMING WE HAD MADE THE SWITCH.
