Narrative:

During climb out from tpa northbound on J91, approximately 50 mi north of cty, 26 mins after takeoff, the #3 low oil pressure/filter bypass light illuminated. Engine oil INS indicated oil pressure 45 psi, quantity 3.2 gals, temperature 110 degrees C. We leveled off at FL240 and initiated the procedure for low oil pressure filter bypass light illuminated. The thrust lever was retarded to idle and the light extinguished. Then thrust lever slowly moved forward until the light reilluminated, then retarded once again to observe the light extinguish once again. As we progressed through the procedure the light reilluminated at idle. After consulting with msp maintenance control, we decided to shut down the #3 engine as a precautionary measure at approximately 34 mins into the flight. We declared an emergency with ATC and proceeded toward atl. En route we dumped 9000 pounds of fuel to below our certified landing weight of 154500#. Our descent, approach and landing were normal. I advised the passenger of the situation and to expect the emergency equipment to greet us upon arrival. We landed local at 153000 pounds and taxied to the gate unescorted. In summary, atl maintenance found evidence of metal and carbon on the oil filter screen creating the bypass indication. Therefore, the aircraft was grounded.

Title: IN CLIMB THE #3 OIL FILTER BYPASS CAME ON. FLT CREW DETERMINED IT WAS LEGITIMATE AND SHUT DOWN ENGINE. LANDED ATL AND POSTFLT LEARNED THERE WAS METAL IN THE OIL FILTER.

Narrative: DURING CLBOUT FROM TPA NBND ON J91, APPROX 50 MI N OF CTY, 26 MINS AFTER TKOF, THE #3 LOW OIL PRESSURE/FILTER BYPASS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ENG OIL INS INDICATED OIL PRESSURE 45 PSI, QUANTITY 3.2 GALS, TEMP 110 DEGS C. WE LEVELED OFF AT FL240 AND INITIATED THE PROC FOR LOW OIL PRESSURE FILTER BYPASS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS WE PROGRESSED THROUGH THE PROC THE LIGHT REILLUMINATED AT IDLE. AFTER CONSULTING WITH MSP MAINT CTL, WE DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN THE #3 ENG AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AT APPROX 34 MINS INTO THE FLT. WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH ATC AND PROCEEDED TOWARD ATL. ENRTE WE DUMPED 9000 LBS OF FUEL TO BELOW OUR CERTIFIED LNDG WT OF 154500#. OUR DSNT, APCH AND LNDG WERE NORMAL. I ADVISED THE PAX OF THE SITUATION AND TO EXPECT THE EMER EQUIP TO GREET US UPON ARR. WE LANDED LCL AT 153000 LBS AND TAXIED TO THE GATE UNESCORTED. IN SUMMARY, ATL MAINT FOUND EVIDENCE OF METAL AND CARBON ON THE OIL FILTER SCREEN CREATING THE BYPASS INDICATION. THEREFORE, THE ACFT WAS GNDED.
