Narrative:

Descending through fl 180 center gave us the altimeter setting to ZZZ. We continued our descent to 3000 and got a landing gear warning and ATC said they had a low altitude alert for us. We disconnected the autopilot and climbed; checked the altimeter settings and corrected them then leveled off at 3000. Cause: we were told; heard; or read back the wrong altimeter setting and never checked it to the ATIS to make sure it was correct. Suggestions: never assume that the altimeter setting you get is correct always double check it to the ATIS.
