Narrative:

Descending through 14;000 feet into ZZZ; we noticed electrical fire fumes and smoke coming from the panel above the captain's forward window. We donned O2 masks and goggles while the relief pilot ran us through the smoke/fumes elimination checklist. Captain flew and I performed pm duties while monitoring the checklist. Relief pilot coordinated with the flight attendants using the test memory aid. I requested priority handling onto the arrival; and we were cleared direct to the FAF for a visual approach to xxc in VMC conditions with light winds. We remained on O2 until after rollout on the runway and determining the smoke had cleared. We had previously cleared our exit plan with ATC and directed the cabin crew not to initiate an evacuation. Arff vehicles checked the aircraft for fire and followed us to the gate; where we shut down and asked them to check the cockpit; as the APU would not start; several switches in that vicinity of the overhead panel were very hot; and we were concerned about the smoke returning if power was applied to the aircraft at the gate. After the overhead panel was checked by arff personnel and hot spots were confirmed with their thermal imaging; we were cleared to deplane passengers at the gate with electrical power remaining off. We completed a maintenance debrief; were met by company operations; and departed after passengers had deplaned.
