Narrative:
I was international relief officer on scheduled rest break when notified to return to cockpit. Generator failure; checklist completed in accordance with flight manual. Flight unable to continue to destination due to additional APU fuel burn. Company decided to have us divert to [a nearby alternate] for multiple reasons including maintenance; passenger accommodation; crew legality; and reserve crew availability. Captain decided to land overweight after considering all risk mitigations; threat evaluation; and crew agreed. Diversion and landing was completed without incident. Outstanding CRM; utilizing all crewmembers and outside resources.
