Narrative:

I had attended an eaa fly-in and was 'waved' away from the part of runway 9 blocked off for the eaa. I contacted ground control as I taxied from the eaa area and was told to taxi straight ahead, to hold short of runway 32. One set of orange cones marked the end of the eaa area on runway 9; another set, farther down, marked the beginning of the part of runway 9 available for takeoff. I assumed the 2ND set of cones defined the location of runway 32 and continued to taxi toward them, not realizing that I was crossing runway 32 until I saw a twin engine aircraft overhead at approximately 200' AGL. Ground control called at that time, telling me I had xed runway 32. When I contacted the tower a few mins later, they asked if I had been talking to ground control. I answered affirmatively. I believe I was confused by the two sets of orange cones and the fact that eaa personnel were waving me forward. Nevertheless, that is not a legitimate excuse, I had an airport diagram in my chart book (NOAA). I should have stopped taxiing and consulted the chart before proceeding. Perhaps a 'runway 32' sign would have helped. I try to learn from my mistakes, they can be valuable lessons. Fortunately for my passenger, the people in the twin and myself, an accident was averted. I'll definitely be more careful next time.

Title: SMA MISSED HOLD POSITION, CROSSED ACTIVE RWY WITH ACFT ON APCH.

Narrative: I HAD ATTENDED AN EAA FLY-IN AND WAS 'WAVED' AWAY FROM THE PART OF RWY 9 BLOCKED OFF FOR THE EAA. I CONTACTED GND CTL AS I TAXIED FROM THE EAA AREA AND WAS TOLD TO TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD, TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 32. ONE SET OF ORANGE CONES MARKED THE END OF THE EAA AREA ON RWY 9; ANOTHER SET, FARTHER DOWN, MARKED THE BEGINNING OF THE PART OF RWY 9 AVAILABLE FOR TKOF. I ASSUMED THE 2ND SET OF CONES DEFINED THE LOCATION OF RWY 32 AND CONTINUED TO TAXI TOWARD THEM, NOT REALIZING THAT I WAS XING RWY 32 UNTIL I SAW A TWIN ENG ACFT OVERHEAD AT APPROX 200' AGL. GND CTL CALLED AT THAT TIME, TELLING ME I HAD XED RWY 32. WHEN I CONTACTED THE TWR A FEW MINS LATER, THEY ASKED IF I HAD BEEN TALKING TO GND CTL. I ANSWERED AFFIRMATIVELY. I BELIEVE I WAS CONFUSED BY THE TWO SETS OF ORANGE CONES AND THE FACT THAT EAA PERSONNEL WERE WAVING ME FORWARD. NEVERTHELESS, THAT IS NOT A LEGITIMATE EXCUSE, I HAD AN ARPT DIAGRAM IN MY CHART BOOK (NOAA). I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED TAXIING AND CONSULTED THE CHART BEFORE PROCEEDING. PERHAPS A 'RWY 32' SIGN WOULD HAVE HELPED. I TRY TO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES, THEY CAN BE VALUABLE LESSONS. FORTUNATELY FOR MY PAX, THE PEOPLE IN THE TWIN AND MYSELF, AN ACCIDENT WAS AVERTED. I'LL DEFINITELY BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME.
