Narrative:

When configuring for landing (1500' AGL) the second officer noted that we did not have a green light indication for the nose gear. I checked the indicator with the test switch and the light still did not come on. I changed the light bulbs in the indicator but we still couldn't get a good indication. The second officer went to the main cabin to visly check the nose gear but was unable to accomplish the visibility check prior to the captain executing a go around. As we flew by the control tower we had them visly confirm that the gear was extended. The second officer then visly checked that the gear was down and locked. As we maneuvered for another vus approach I selected bright and dim several times on the test switch and we finally got a green light indication. The landing was uneventful and the system was written up in the aircraft logbook.

Title: ACR LGT HAD TO MAKE A GO AROUND WHEN THE FLT CREW COULD NOT CONFIRM THE NOSE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED.

Narrative: WHEN CONFIGURING FOR LNDG (1500' AGL) THE S/O NOTED THAT WE DID NOT HAVE A GREEN LIGHT INDICATION FOR THE NOSE GEAR. I CHKED THE INDICATOR WITH THE TEST SWITCH AND THE LIGHT STILL DID NOT COME ON. I CHANGED THE LIGHT BULBS IN THE INDICATOR BUT WE STILL COULDN'T GET A GOOD INDICATION. THE S/O WENT TO THE MAIN CABIN TO VISLY CHK THE NOSE GEAR BUT WAS UNABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THE VIS CHK PRIOR TO THE CAPT EXECUTING A GO AROUND. AS WE FLEW BY THE CTL TWR WE HAD THEM VISLY CONFIRM THAT THE GEAR WAS EXTENDED. THE S/O THEN VISLY CHKED THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. AS WE MANEUVERED FOR ANOTHER VUS APCH I SELECTED BRIGHT AND DIM SEVERAL TIMES ON THE TEST SWITCH AND WE FINALLY GOT A GREEN LIGHT INDICATION. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND THE SYS WAS WRITTEN UP IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK.
