Narrative:

We were cleared to taxi from the passenger terminal to runway 33L. We took taxiway east and it appeared that the first runway we came to was runway 28. I confirmed with the first officer that we did not have any instructions to hold short of runway 28 and we were debating where the hold lines for runway 33L were when ground asked us to stop and hold our position for landing traffic on runway 33L. The other traffic was able to land and then we were cleared into position on runway 33L. This was only the third time I had been to isp and it was the first time I had departed runway 33L. I feel the markings at the intersection of taxiway east, runway 28, and runway 33L are confusing, especially for pilots unfamiliar with isp. I also feel the taxi clearance should be to hold short of runway 28 for runway 33L.

Title: FLT CREW OF LTT IN TAXIING OVERRAN THE HOLD LINE FOR INTERSECTION OF RWYS 33 AND 28 AT ISP ARPT.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI FROM THE PAX TERMINAL TO RWY 33L. WE TOOK TXWY E AND IT APPEARED THAT THE FIRST RWY WE CAME TO WAS RWY 28. I CONFIRMED WITH THE F/O THAT WE DID NOT HAVE ANY INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 28 AND WE WERE DEBATING WHERE THE HOLD LINES FOR RWY 33L WERE WHEN GND ASKED US TO STOP AND HOLD OUR POS FOR LNDG TFC ON RWY 33L. THE OTHER TFC WAS ABLE TO LAND AND THEN WE WERE CLRED INTO POS ON RWY 33L. THIS WAS ONLY THE THIRD TIME I HAD BEEN TO ISP AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD DEPARTED RWY 33L. I FEEL THE MARKINGS AT THE INTXN OF TXWY E, RWY 28, AND RWY 33L ARE CONFUSING, ESPECIALLY FOR PLTS UNFAMILIAR WITH ISP. I ALSO FEEL THE TAXI CLRNC SHOULD BE TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 28 FOR RWY 33L.
