Narrative:

Departing lax early morning on the loop 8 departure, we were cleared to turn to lax and meet all altitude restrictions. We started a slow turn around to ensure crossing lax at or above 1000'. Out of 10000', shortly before lax we accelerated per our climb schedule. About that time the controller stated we were wide (he stated 10 mi our DME said 8) and asked if we were at 250 KIAS. I said no, we never were told to maintain 250 KIAS. He said we were and to slow to 250 KIAS. I rechked clearance and SID and found no 250 KIAS restrictions or remain within restriction. I don't get to lax often. Maybe there are local procedures I'm unaware of. We were heavy and needed to make the restrictions.
