Narrative:

The first officer [first officer] had just completed the crew rest period using the crew rest bunk on the B787 and was preparing to return for flight deck duties. While changing clothes into uniform and while still in the crew rest area; first officer slipped or fell down the stairs and came to rest on back at the base of the stairs and head was jammed against the crew rest door that divides the forward galley from the crew rest area. The flight attendants working in the forward galley heard a noise (which was the first officer actually falling down the stairs) and saw the crew rest door slightly bulging at the base of the door. The flight attendants opened the crew rest door and observed the first officer's body splayed down the stairs on floor in an upside-down position. Blood was coming from the back of first officer's head. The flight attendants immediately signaled the rest of the inflight crew with 4 chimes and began administering emergent care to the first officer. There were 3 medical doctors on board that immediately rendered assistance. Medlink was contacted while direct medical treatment was being administered to the injured first officer by the doctors and flight attendants. [We declared an urgent situation] with air traffic control and the flight was given direct routing to ZZZ. Upon landing the flight was given priority handling to gate 157 at the international terminal where paramedic and fire personnel were in position awaiting the flight arrival. Upon arrival; paramedics boarded the flight and began administering medical attention to the first officer. Eventually the first officer was removed from the aircraft via backboard/gurney and transported to hospital.
