Narrative:

The tower controller was working all positions simultaneously: clearance; ground; and tower. This included de-conflicting multiple pushbacks; maintenance repositions; taxi clearances; takeoff clearances; and hand offs to departure. First; controller was doing this across multiple frequencies making situational awareness difficult when trying to communicate. Specifically; controller cleared us for takeoff while we were still taxiing. We needed additional time and were virtually unable to communicate that due to how busy it was. We were calling on the tower frequency and apparently blocking calls on the ground frequency.on takeoff roll; the controller was still transmitting across all frequencies simultaneously; resulting in near constant transmissions. Had we experienced an emergency and required assistance it would have been nearly impossible to break through the chatter. Finally; due to workload and other duties; the controller neglected to hand us off to departure control until we prompted it.
