Narrative:

I had been practicing touch and goes at hudson municipal and had been reporting my position in the pattern. There were about 3 other planes in the pattern, and we were all making left traffic to runway 17. Upon completing my last landing. I reported departing the pattern to the southeast. This was my last position report. I flew southeast for about 1 mi and then turned left to the north. I continued my climb to 2250' MSL while paralleling the hudson runway east of the pattern. The elevation at hudson is 446', and I had been using 1500' as my pattern altitude. After leveling off at 2250', I continued northerly toward lake ray hubard which begins about 3-4 mi north of hudson. It was my intention to maneuver over the lake for some sight seeing, and I had picked 2250' as an odd altitude at which I might reduce the chances of a traffic conflict. Upon reaching the lake, I continued north over the east half of it for about 1/2 mi and then turned left to the wnw. As I approached the extended centerline or runway 17 I was particularly careful to look for traffic shooting the NDB 17 approach (straight-in). I had heard traffic reporting this approach earlier while I was still shooting touch and goes, but had not heard anything for at least 10 mins. My wnw heading put the evening sun close to my 12 O'clock position. This along with the haze made spotting traffic difficult. Just as I was crossing the extended centerline about 5 mi north of hudson I saw the single engine small aircraft Y flying southbound on the centerline, at my 2 O'clock position, close and right towards me. The small aircraft Y pilot apparently saw me just before I saw him. He banked left, and I banked left about 1-2 seconds later. He was about 30' above me and 200' off my right wing. It is my belief that the small aircraft Y pilot was either shooting the NDB 17 approach or simply flying straight-in, and either did not report his intentions, or did, and I missed them.

Title: NMAC BETWEEN TWO SMA'S NEAR HQZ.

Narrative: I HAD BEEN PRACTICING TOUCH AND GOES AT HUDSON MUNICIPAL AND HAD BEEN RPTING MY POS IN THE PATTERN. THERE WERE ABOUT 3 OTHER PLANES IN THE PATTERN, AND WE WERE ALL MAKING L TFC TO RWY 17. UPON COMPLETING MY LAST LNDG. I RPTED DEPARTING THE PATTERN TO THE SE. THIS WAS MY LAST POS RPT. I FLEW SE FOR ABOUT 1 MI AND THEN TURNED L TO THE N. I CONTINUED MY CLB TO 2250' MSL WHILE PARALLELING THE HUDSON RWY E OF THE PATTERN. THE ELEVATION AT HUDSON IS 446', AND I HAD BEEN USING 1500' AS MY PATTERN ALT. AFTER LEVELING OFF AT 2250', I CONTINUED NORTHERLY TOWARD LAKE RAY HUBARD WHICH BEGINS ABOUT 3-4 MI N OF HUDSON. IT WAS MY INTENTION TO MANEUVER OVER THE LAKE FOR SOME SIGHT SEEING, AND I HAD PICKED 2250' AS AN ODD ALT AT WHICH I MIGHT REDUCE THE CHANCES OF A TFC CONFLICT. UPON REACHING THE LAKE, I CONTINUED N OVER THE E HALF OF IT FOR ABOUT 1/2 MI AND THEN TURNED L TO THE WNW. AS I APCHED THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OR RWY 17 I WAS PARTICULARLY CAREFUL TO LOOK FOR TFC SHOOTING THE NDB 17 APCH (STRAIGHT-IN). I HAD HEARD TFC RPTING THIS APCH EARLIER WHILE I WAS STILL SHOOTING TOUCH AND GOES, BUT HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST 10 MINS. MY WNW HDG PUT THE EVENING SUN CLOSE TO MY 12 O'CLOCK POS. THIS ALONG WITH THE HAZE MADE SPOTTING TFC DIFFICULT. JUST AS I WAS XING THE EXTENDED CTRLINE ABOUT 5 MI N OF HUDSON I SAW THE SINGLE ENG SMA Y FLYING SBND ON THE CTRLINE, AT MY 2 O'CLOCK POS, CLOSE AND R TOWARDS ME. THE SMA Y PLT APPARENTLY SAW ME JUST BEFORE I SAW HIM. HE BANKED L, AND I BANKED L ABOUT 1-2 SECS LATER. HE WAS ABOUT 30' ABOVE ME AND 200' OFF MY R WING. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE SMA Y PLT WAS EITHER SHOOTING THE NDB 17 APCH OR SIMPLY FLYING STRAIGHT-IN, AND EITHER DID NOT RPT HIS INTENTIONS, OR DID, AND I MISSED THEM.
