Narrative:

I was approaching an small aircraft single engine low wing from behind. Had about 3 mi of visibility contact prior to passing. I was not given any indication of traffic from chicago flight following. Small aircraft appeared to be slowly moving from my left to right or going in almost the same direction and altitude as I was. I made a decision to go around on the right and under the small aircraft. I was handed off to muskegon approach on 119.8 approximately 5 min later. Mkg asked me if I had seen the small aircraft and I said yes. About 3 min later the small aircraft reported a near miss to mkg approach. Mkg approach told the pilot it was not a near miss because we had visibility contact prior to passing. I did not consider this a near miss. My altimeter read 6700' passing under the small aircraft after passing I returned to 7500' and finished my trip from osh to arb making use of flight watch in muskegon, mi, lansing, mi, kalamazoo, mi, and then into ann arbor, mi.

Title: PLT OF SMA APCHING MKG OVER LAKE MICHIGAN, AND TALKING TO ZAU FOR RADAR FLT FOLLOWING OVERTAKES ANOTHER SMA WHO REPORTS A NEAR MISS. FIRST PLT HAD SECOND ACFT IN SIGHT FROM 3 MILES BACK.

Narrative: I WAS APCHING AN SMA SINGLE ENG LOW WING FROM BEHIND. HAD ABOUT 3 MI OF VIS CONTACT PRIOR TO PASSING. I WAS NOT GIVEN ANY INDICATION OF TFC FROM CHICAGO FLT FOLLOWING. SMA APPEARED TO BE SLOWLY MOVING FROM MY L TO R OR GOING IN ALMOST THE SAME DIRECTION AND ALT AS I WAS. I MADE A DECISION TO GO AROUND ON THE R AND UNDER THE SMA. I WAS HANDED OFF TO MUSKEGON APCH ON 119.8 APPROX 5 MIN LATER. MKG ASKED ME IF I HAD SEEN THE SMA AND I SAID YES. ABOUT 3 MIN LATER THE SMA RPTED A NEAR MISS TO MKG APCH. MKG APCH TOLD THE PLT IT WAS NOT A NEAR MISS BECAUSE WE HAD VIS CONTACT PRIOR TO PASSING. I DID NOT CONSIDER THIS A NEAR MISS. MY ALTIMETER READ 6700' PASSING UNDER THE SMA AFTER PASSING I RETURNED TO 7500' AND FINISHED MY TRIP FROM OSH TO ARB MAKING USE OF FLT WATCH IN MUSKEGON, MI, LANSING, MI, KALAMAZOO, MI, AND THEN INTO ANN ARBOR, MI.
