Narrative:

Aircraft landed runway 27. Local controller instructed aircraft to continue to the end of runway and hold short of 22R. The normal instructions are to turn right at taxiway xray. This clearance was not given. Aircraft entered the stopway of 27 short of stopway for runway 22R. Crew understood the clearance given by local controller that aircraft had clearance to use stopway and clear at the end, but to also hold short of 22R which we did. There was no conflict with other traffic. The problem started with the controller issuing a clearance while we were in the process of stopping the aircraft, which is a very busy and noisy period, and the controller should have issued a specific exit taxiway.

Title: NON ADHERENCE TO ATC INSTRUCTION AS ACR LGT USES STOPWAY-OVERRUN ON LNDG ROLL AS A CLRNC INTERP OF CTLR ASKING FLT TO CONTINUE TO THE END OF RWY, ETC.

Narrative: ACFT LANDED RWY 27. LCL CTLR INSTRUCTED ACFT TO CONTINUE TO THE END OF RWY AND HOLD SHORT OF 22R. THE NORMAL INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO TURN RIGHT AT TXWY XRAY. THIS CLRNC WAS NOT GIVEN. ACFT ENTERED THE STOPWAY OF 27 SHORT OF STOPWAY FOR RWY 22R. CREW UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC GIVEN BY LCL CTLR THAT ACFT HAD CLRNC TO USE STOPWAY AND CLR AT THE END, BUT TO ALSO HOLD SHORT OF 22R WHICH WE DID. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC. THE PROB STARTED WITH THE CTLR ISSUING A CLRNC WHILE WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF STOPPING THE ACFT, WHICH IS A VERY BUSY AND NOISY PERIOD, AND THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A SPECIFIC EXIT TXWY.
