Narrative:
On initial climb and shortly after the flaps were retracted; we initiated a turn to assigned heading; in the turn we experienced severe vibration in the aircraft and loud banging. We experienced a rollback of power on the left engine in the turn. We had a red EICAS left engine exceedance message. Unsure of the airworthiness of the aircraft at this point; and the condition not getting any better. I had my first officer notify ATC of [the situation] and we were given an immediate landing clearance.
